today I joined the local swimming pool.I h decided to go swimming 4 times a week because I do enjoy swimming and I like how stable my mind feels whilst I'm swimming ,but what are the benefits of swimming in terms of exercise?   How much swimming should you do and for how long and what changes will it cause to your body? Or to your mind?  Does anyone know?

I enjoyed my swim today and hope to keep it up.

OMG!! I belonged to the YMCA for years just mainly for the Pool, then sure I awkwardly learned to use some machines

Swimming benefits IMO, and believe me I often recommend swimming to people in my everyday life:

even just kinda frolicking around in the non lap section, free style, swimming at your pace, i do back stroke stuff, just being buoyant, I have fun, my attitude is fuck it no reason to be embarrassed. Dont even have to do stuff for long, i keep legs moving, sometimes hold the edge and kick, tread water. It is so great for cardio. But the surprising BIGGEST benefit that I personally felt is that I was so LIMBER once out of the pool. More than after a massage. Your body being buoyant in water just releases so much strain in your tight muscles like in the neck and back, hip pain , any sort of pain along these lines.

Yes and you sleep better at night too.  I have stopped going as the weather is so cold at the moment but I'm hoping to do lots of swimming when I got to Cyprus in February!  I know its cold where you are at the moment, can really put you off having to go out in the freezing cold after a swim I think.

well nothing beats natural water swimming.  But indoor pools here at Gyms, fitness clubs are kept quite warm. They also always have a cedar sauna room if youd like.
